About us

Our Ethos

When you visit us, you will discover that Providence Church in Marshall, Texas seeks to enrich minds through eager and earnest pursuit of our sovereign, holy God; to inflame hearts through the understanding of the glorious gospel of Christ and the declaration of the whole counsel of God's Word; to shape hands and feet through spiritual service and the exercise of our spiritual gifts. All of this contributes to our highest goal of bringing glory to God alone.

We hope to raise us a generation of true believers whose hearts burn for God's glory, who proclaim the gospel of Christ with passion, who zealously love God and live according to His Word, all enable and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We will endeavour to equip, enrich and encourage through expositional preaching, theological education, evangelistic outreach, participation in local and global ministries, exercising real love and relationships with God and one another so that we might be salt and light in the present world until Christ comes again and finds us at work for the glory of His name.

As believers in Christ, we are called to a certain standard of living.
We place an emphasis on the following:

We are committed to the centrality of the Scriptures.  The study and grasp of the Scriptures is important to us because the Scriptures tell us who God is and how he would have us to live.

We are committed to a hearty worship.  Our recognition of who God is leads to an overflow from our lives into a regular gathering together primarily on Sundays but also at other times during the week to a vibrant worship of him in song, preaching and prayer.

We are committed to sharing the gospel because not only have we been commanded to do so but also because it is the only hope of salvation for mankind.

We are committed to recognition that salvation is through Christ alone and through God's sovereign work for the praise of His glorious Name.

We are committed to practical holiness for the sake of Him who called us because we recognize that our faith is not passive but having been made a new creation in Christ we are now to be actively involved in pursuing him and putting to death the deeds of the flesh.

We are committed to the local church recognizing that it is the God ordained means through which believers grow, edify one another and participate in the Lord's Supper.

We are committed to love one another, to hold one another accountable and to pray for one another regularly.

All this for our ultimate purpose - which is to glorify God.

Our heritage and doctrine

Convinced by God's Word we stand in general accord with the great historic Reformed and Baptistic Confessions of Faith such as The London Baptist Confessions of 1644, 1646, The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689, and the Philadelphia Confession of Faith of 1742. These "confessions" agree with much in the Reformed Confessions of Faith and Catechisms such as Westminster and Heidleberg.

We are thankful to have a plurality of experienced elders serving side by side for the sake of the saints at Providence Church.
